A new study suggests that the treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED) could help boost sexual performance, even in men with erectile dysfunction who don’t experience the symptoms commonly associated with ED. The study, known as the Viagra Connected Men Study (VIMS), included more than 1,600 men with ED over a three-year period. The men were randomized to one of three treatment options: a non-surgical, prescription-based ED treatment (n=744), a prescription-based ED treatment (n=303) or a medication (n=1230). The study found that ED treatments were more effective than non-surgical ED medications for men with ED. A total of 6.5 percent of the men treated with a prescription ED medication were taking a prescription ED medication, compared to only 1.8 percent of the men who received a non-surgical ED treatment.
The men in the VIMS study were older men, had a lower socioeconomic level, were healthier and had a better quality of life. About 70 percent of the men were diagnosed with ED, compared to only 15 percent of men with erectile dysfunction.
